How To Play

Super Tic-Tac-Toe is Tic-Tac-Toe where each square is another game of Tic-Tac-Toe. Win three small boards in a row to win the whole thing.

X played the top-left cell of the centre board, so O must play somewhere in the highlighted top-left board.

The core rule

Whichever cell you play inside a small board decides which small board your opponent plays in next.

Play the upper-left cell of any board, and your opponent is sent to the upper-left board. Play the centre cell, and they go to the centre board. That's the whole game — you're choosing your own move and their next board at the same time.

When a board is already decided

If the small board you'd be sent to has already been won or drawn, the restriction lifts and you may play in any open board instead.

Winning the game

Win three small boards in a row — horizontally, vertically, or diagonally — on the big board to win the match. If every small board is settled and no line was ever made, the game is a draw.

FAQ

• What if a small board fills up with no winner? It's marked as drawn. Nobody can play there again, and nobody can be sent there.
• Can I pick my own game piece? Yes — set one on your account page. Any single character or emoji works. If both players pick the same one, whoever joined first keeps it and the other gets the next free symbol.
• Can I chat during a game? Yes — the chat panel next to the board is open to both players for the whole match.
• What happens if I lose connection? The game isn't forfeited. Reload the page and you'll be seated back at the same board with the same piece, as long as your opponent is still connected. If you both leave at once, the match is over.
